Pine Ridge Vocational Institute

Imagine living in a place where 70-80% of the population is unemployed, the high schools have a 70% or higher drop out rate, and 63% of the population lives below the poverty line.  This is the situation faced by the Lakota people of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, U.S.A.

Pine Ridge Vocational Institute operates on a foundation of values found both in Lakota culture and biblical teachings, attending to a person's spiritual, emotional, physical and mental well-being. The Institute also promotes a person's role and responsibility to family, community, the nation, and the world.

The Institute's training includes skill and job readiness, personal health, budgeting and other life skills necessary for employment or micro-business development. The Institute's leadership focus involves mentoring, Lakota heritage awareness, and community service to train for effective leadership potential for graduates of the Institute's programs.
