Gamaliel Christian School in Managua

About Nicaragua: Nicaragua, the largest nation in Central America is sometimes called, "the land of lakes and volcanoes" because it is home to the largest lakes in Central American and a chain of active volcanoes in its western heartland. Nicaragua's economy is based largely on agriculture, and espeically on crops grown for export. With a population of nearly 4.9 million, over 40% of which are under the age of 15, Nicaragua is also among the poorest nations in Central America.

School Profile: Gamaliel Christian School is located in a barrio of approximately 15,000 inhabitants on the outskirts of Managua. The economic level is very low with about 40% unemployment. There is one public elementary school with about 1000 students and two private elementary schools which serve about 300 students. Even with this many students receiving an education though, there are still a total of about 1200 children who cannot receive the education that they deserve.

Construction on Gamaliel began three years ago, when property behind the school became available. The first floor was built the first year and the second floor the next. A house for the pastor is being built on this property also. A HANDS team from Illinois-Indiana began this project along with the local workers. Worldwide Christian Schools has partnered with a local church to support Gamaliel. Please consider how you could join us in contributing too.
