The 21 COCREF schools in the Dominican Republic are divided into 4 categories based on the level of development attained.

Category A schools are in the highest income bracket, contributing the highest monthly quota to the COCREF program. Through tuition, they are able to pay for building maintenance and improvements, telephone, equipment, furniture, and the salary of a secretary and janitor.

Category B schools are located in slightly lower economic areas and contribute slightly less to the quota. However, some are still able to pay for a secretary, janitor, telephone, maintenance, and equipment.

Category C schools are usually unable to afford a secretary, but still manage to pay for a janitor, maintenance, and a telephone (if they have one most do not).

Category D schools are in the lowest economic areas of the country (bateys) and depend 100% on COCREF for teacher salaries. They do not have any other staff (such as janitor or secretaries) and rely on COCREF for up to 90% of additional costs, such as maintenance and school supplies.
