St. Andrews Christian School in San Ignacio

The adult literacy rate in Belize is often quoted as high as 76%, however, the last comprehensive survey to be completed in Belize found that the functional literacy rate was approximately 40%. It is apparent that quality education is badly needed, and WWCS believes that the solution to many of these challenges lies in Christ-centered schools. To start, WWCS has formed a new partnership with St. Andrew's Primary School in the city of San Ignacio.
St. Andrew's School is an outreach of the Anglican Church with a heart for the children of Belize. The school's mission is to be faithful stewards of the church and God's creation, to love their neighbors as themselves and to be an "open, growing, nurturing, and worshiping community of faith for our multi-racial...society." St. Andrew's strives to proclaim the Gospel of Christ through meaningful programs, and to seek the root causes of crime, violence, and other social challenges in Belize.
The school is currently reaching out to 394 students, and they are quickly outgrowing their facilities. The Reverend Nancy Walton, chaplain at St. Andrew's, reports that some classes have been meeting in the school's small kitchen for lack of space. WWCS is helping St. Andrews raise funds for two new classrooms.
