Helen DeVos Christian School

A generous gift provided necessary funds to launch the first classes in January, 2008 at Helen DeVos Christian School.  Two hundred and fifty-three eager children started school that year, and through continuing support will be able to maintain the high level of education they currently receive.

Although Zambian students are required to pay approximately $200 in annual fees, public schools in Zambia continue to operate under severe funding restraints. Supplies are sparse, classes are large and are held for only four hours each day. Seventy-five percent of young people never get beyond the seventh grade.

While libraries and labs are not the common across schools in Zambia, thanks to donors, both a library and a computer lab contribute to the success of the reputation of the DeVos and student performance.

WWCS is working with partner Alliance for Children Everywhere to raise funds for operations and to continue building this great alternative to public education.
