Jato Aka Christian School

About Nigeria: The country of Nigeria is the largest and most populated country in black Africa. It lies in the sub-region of West Africa. Two main rivers, the Niger River and Benue River, drain it. The country received her name Nigeria from the Niger River, which is the biggest river in the country. Nigeria is divided into 36 states of which Benue State, where we belong, is one of them. Nigeria is a country with many ethnic tribes, over two hundred. This is simply because this part of Africa was colonized by Britain so we now speak and learn English as our language of instruction. Any person in Nigeria who has gone through the normal system of education in Nigeria knows the ABC's of English.

School Profile: Benue State, where the school is located, lies within Benue Valley and is rich agricultural land where they produce roots and grain crops. With poor storage facilities, these crops do not stay for long and are sold up to avoid waste. These people remain poor in spite of their good harvest. The school is situated in a small village of Jato Aka, not yet developed. The community has no electricity and no piped in water. The people mostly use deep wells dug in their compound. God has really blessed us here with an abundance of underground water. Good proportions of the people are still not educated. Most of the educated children within this community are from Christian families. Though the community is working very hard to improve, it is still finding it difficult due to lack of educational facilities, etc.

NKST Secondary School, Jato Aka was established in 1982. It went into a series of crisis as a new school that is not yet recognized by the government. With the help of Worldwide Schools, we are now doing fine. The school has eleven classrooms. We have junior school, the first three years, and senior school, the last three years. The school has 17 teachers on the roll. They are fine teachers and very hard working. The school is a co-educational school. The main reason for opening NKST schools is to help propagate the Word of God into the minds of these students. This aim is really being achieved. With help from generous donors, we will be able to continue to offer a quality Christian education to the children of Jato Aka. Please consider how you could help us.
