Lunch Money

Pocket change is worth more than you think.

"I liked it that we can make a big difference with a little canister."- Meka, a fifth-grader at a Christian School in Holland, MI

As little as 20 cents pays for a child's lunch in India.  Since most of the students in WWCS partner schools come from backgrounds of poverty, lunch is often the only meal a student in India will eat each day.  An empty stomach makes it difficult to learn - hungry stomachs can't sustain hungry minds.

What can you do?  Through the WWCS Lunch Money program, North American students use their pocket change to partner with Indian Christian schools in providing nutritious school lunches.  Students put their change into Lunch Money canisters. When the canisters are full, students return them to school or church, and the funds are sent to WWCS.  No gift is too small.  With pocket change, a child can make a difference for another child half a world a way.

Lunch Money benefits four Christ-centered schools in India:

  • Zamar Academy serves 155 students from an economically-challenged area in the city of Chennai. Many of Zamar’s students walk five kilometers (about three miles) to school and back each day.
  • New Life Mission School, located in the village of Orissa, serves 165 students. Many are orphans or community children from Hindu families.  In an area that is often hostile to Christianity, New Life continues to persevere in providing these children with a safe, loving atmosphere.
  • Agape Rehabilitation Centre serves 25 teenage students in Chennai. The students at Agape have physical disabilities and are often ostracized in their communities.  Agape takes them in and provides free computer training and assistance with finding jobs.
  • Mullai Academy near the city of Bangalore serves 527 students. It is structured in a way that allows students to receive an excellent Christian education along with vocational training. The school is located in an impoverished area that is struggling with social issues.
