Build a School

The following school projects are in need of funding and HANDS work teams for school construction projects.

Asia

Mullai Academy in India

Location: Dharmapura.  This school serves 527 students and every available space on the campus is being utilized. Mullai's reputation for quality education has become well-known in the community and is the first choice for families, but many must be turned away until funds can be raised for the construction of a two-story building that will accommodate growth (more).  Build this School . New Life Mission School in India

Location: Orissa.  Adventurous volunteers are needed for HANDS mission teams that will serve as micro-business advisors to New Life Mission School & Orphanage, a WWCS partner school in a rural area of India.  New Life offers Christ-centered education to 52 orphans and a growing number of community children from Hindu families. HANDS team volunteers will take care of light construction on the school grounds and assess the opportunities available to New Life for micro-business ventures that will sustain it in this community. Possibilities include growing and mixing ingredients for bio-fuels, raising livestock, and creating handmade goods with readily-available and affordable materials (more). Build this School . Africa

Africa Outreach School in South Africa

Location: Soweto.  This school is located in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Soweto.  The school began in 1993 with ten children from church-going families in the neighborhood.  It has now grown to accommodate more than 70 students from the greater community.  The school started out in the director's home, and currently holds classes in temporary structures on the church grounds.  The school is struggling to accommodate further growth without the proper space (more).

Central America & the Caribbean

Colegio Juan Wesley in Guatemala

Location: San Cristobal Totonicapan.  This school has experienced rapid growth and is quickly outgrowing its facilities. Classes are currently held in the Methodist church. Students learn in seven classrooms, a tight squeeze for the school's 300 students and growing. To maximize space, the school holds elementary school classes in the morning and junior high classes in the afternoon.  The donation of a local site for a new school building was a great relief, but money is scarce when it comes to purchasing the actual building materials for the new school and paying for labor. The school also has the long-term vision of teaching elementary, junior high, high school, vocational training, and eventually university classes on this site (more). Build this School . Western Christian Academy in Belize

Location: Ontario.  This school is now holding 9th and 10th grade classes with over 80 students enrolled. It will eventually be a free-standing high school built on 10 acres in the heart of Ontario Village off of the main mission campus.  We anticipate the need for future HANDS teams over the next two years as the school continues to expand.  This Christian High School is the only option for many of the students in that region. The local public school is too far and too expensive by bus (more).
