Build a School
The following school projects are in need of funding or Worldwide Hands mission teams for school construction projects.
Asia
Mullai Academy in India (2011)
Location: Dharmapura. This school serves 527 students and every available space on the
campus is being utilized. Mullai's reputation for quality education has
become well-known in the community and is the first choice for
families, but many must be turned away until funds can be raised for
the construction of a two-story building that will accommodate growth (more). Donate to this Project .
New Life Academy in India (2011)
Location: Orissa. Adventurous volunteers are needed for HANDS mission teams that will serve as micro-business advisors to New Life Mission School & Orphanage, a WWCS partner school in a rural area of India. New Life offers Christ-centered education to 65 orphans and a growing number of community children from Hindu families. Now in its final months in a rented faciliy, New Life Academy is working hard to complete construction on their facility, but funds are still needed to complete the school in time (more). Africa
Africa Outreach School in South Africa (2010-2011)
Location: Soweto This School is located in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Soweto. The school began in 1993 with ten children from church-going families in the neighborhood. It has now grown to accommodate more than 70 students from the greater community. The school started out in the director's home, and currently holds classes in temporary structures on the church grounds. The school i sstruggling to accommodate further growth without the proper space (more). Donate to this Project . Help Build this School
Helen DeVos Christian School in Zambia (2010-2011)
Location: Lusaka. Although Zambian students are required to pay approximately $200 in annual fees, public schools in Zambia continue to operate under severe funding restraints. Supplies are sparse, classes are large and are held for only four hours each day. Seventy-five percent of young people never get beyond the seventh grade.
While libraries and labs are not the common across schools in Zambia, thanks to donors, both a library and a computer lab contribute to the success of the reputation of the DeVos and student performance. WWCS is working with partner Alliance for Children Everywhere to raise funds for operations and to continue building this great alternative to public education (more). Donate to this Project . Latin America & the Caribbean
Colegio Juan Wesley in Guatemala (2010-2011)
Location: San Cristobal Totonicapan. This school has experienced rapid growth and is quickly outgrowing its facilities. Classes are currently held in the Methodist church. Students learn in seven classrooms, a tight squeeze for the school's 300 students and growing. To maximize space, the school holds elementary school classes in the morning and junior high classes in the afternoon. The donation of a local site for a new school building was a great relief, but money is scarce when it comes to purchasing the actual building materials for the new school and paying for labor. The school also has the long-term vision of teaching elementary, junior high, high school, vocational training, and eventually university classes on this site (more). Donate to this Project .
