Out of the Slums
April 15, 2009
The recent blockbuster Slumdog Millionaire follows
the lives of "slum children" in India. Children like those shown in the
film attend WWCS partner schools around the world. In their travels, WWCS
staff hear their stories and wonder how we can help so many in nee
d.
"We
just finished a visit to a school for impoverished children in
Bangalore, India," said Gypsy Meadows, WWCS Field Director for Asia. "As
we toured the classes, the
children looked to us so expectantly, like
there was something great that we would say to them that would change
their lives. We stood there so helplessly, knowing we are so ordinary."
Meadows listened to one little girl tell about the abuse and lack of food she experienced at home. These are the stories of children who attend school throughout India. For many, were it not for their school, they would not be fed a healthy meal. They would not receive encouragement. They would never learn to read.
As WWCS works toward its vision of Christ-centered education for all, we keep these children in our hearts and minds. Know that when you give to WWCS, more children like these are receiving hope through quality schools.
